An Arnold grandmother, her daughter and 15-year-old grandson are facing criminal charges after a drug bust last week that, police say, turned up $13,000 worth of crack cocaine and suspected fentanyl.
Desdrene Smith, 64, and Brittany Shelton, 34, each are charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and endangering the welfare of children, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.
New Kensington police, the Westmoreland County Drug Task Force and agents with the Attorney General’s Office searched the home in the 1500 block of Kenneth Avenue on Friday, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.
There, police say they recovered about 4.5 ounces of crack cocaine, less than half an ounce of suspected fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia.
Smith was inside the home with two of her grandchildren, who are 4 and 15 years old, the DA’s office said.
Several ounces of crack cocaine were inside the 15-year-old’s room. He is being charged as a juvenile and is being held at the Regional Youth Services Center in Hempfield.
Agents say they found 26 stamp bags of fentanyl on a bedroom floor among the 4-year-old’s toys, the AG’s office said. A crack pipe was also in the area.
Smith was unable to post a $15,000 bond and was being held in the Westmoreland County jail. A preliminary hearing for Smith is scheduled May 1 before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.
Police currently have an arrest warrant for Shelton.
