An Arnold man will serve two to four years in state prison after pleading guilty Monday to homicide by vehicle in a crash that killed a 75-year-old Braddock man.

Tyrell Jimmie Knight, 37, was charged in the Nov. 9, 2023 death of Harry Harold King.

According to Allegheny County Police, Knight was driving on Braddock Avenue in North Braddock about 8:15 a.m. when he struck King, who was walking on the side of the road.

Toxicology tests showed that Knight’s blood tested positive for THC.

According to the prosecution, Knight did not have a driver’s license at the time. His license was suspended Oct. 11, 2012, for a DUI, and he never got it back, according to the prosecution.

After the incident, he stopped his car and was on scene when police arrived.

Police said that Knight was heading west on Braddock Avenue when his car crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, went over a concrete curb and partially into the grass where King was walking.

The vehicle struck him from behind.

Witnesses said Knight had been driving erratically.

On Monday, Knight apologized to the victim’s family.

He also pleaded guilty in a different case to possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number and carrying a firearm without a license.

According to the criminal complaint in that case, McKeesport police came upon Knight unconscious in the driver’s seat of his car on April 2 parked in a business on Washington Avenue.

There was a loaded pistol on the passenger seat.

On Monday, defense attorney Joseph Hudak said his client had been drinking and passed out early that morning.

Knight had borrowed the gun from someone and had been contemplating suicide after his wife died last year, and then his son was killed, Hudak said.
