An Arnold man was deemed incompetent Thursday to stand trial in an attempted homicide and rape case.

Cue Anthony Freckleton, 29, will be sent from the Westmoreland County jail to Torrance State Hospital in Derry Township for treatment in an effort to restore competency, Judge Scott Mears ordered.

“The doctor felt that he was restorable,” Mears said.

Freckleton is accused of forcing his way into a 67-year-old Arnold woman’s home last June 17 and attacking her, city police said. She smeared her blood on the suspect’s shirt so there would be evidence in case he killed her, according to court papers.

She was taken to a hospital. Police said they found Freckleton in front of his house wearing a button-down shirt that had blood stains on it.

A competency evaluation was conducted April 27. Public defender Sarah Reeb said she reviewed the report with Freckleton, who was not happy with the results. He will be reevaluated in a few months.

Freckleton is charged with attempted homicide, rape, burglary and related offenses.

He has been held without bond since his June arrest.
