A fire hydrant on Millers Lane in Plum. The Plum Borough Municipal Authority will soon begin its flushing program, which may discolor residents’ water.

Starting later this month, Plum residents may see discoloration in their water.

That’s because the borough’s municipal authority will begin its hydrant flushing program on Sept. 29 to ensure all fire hydrant systems are clean and operational.

The program will extend until Nov. 26. No work will occur on the weekends.

The authority recommends residents test water before laundering or drawing large quantities of it during the two-month period.

Water discoloration commonly clears within one or two hours, according to the authority. If the issue persists, residents can call the office at 412-793-7331.
