Aspinwall police are investigating after a taxidermy rhino head was found on a borough street.

Aspinwall police have found themselves in the unique situation of investigating a taxidermy rhinoceros head that was found on a borough sidewalk.

The animal was found at about 9 p.m. on Aug. 28.

A person walking his dog came across the unusual find at Freeport Road and Western Avenue.

Deputy Chief Michael Vith said officers are reviewing security cameras in the area in hopes of learning who left the animal head behind.

He said it weighs about 80 to 100 pounds.

“We have contacted the U.S Game Commission and local zoos for their assistance,” Vith said.

A representative from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was not immediately available.

No one has come forward to claim the rhino head yet, Vith said.
