Harrison Commissioners will have a public hearing where residents can hear a plan by AT&T for a cell tower near Highlands High School.

Representatives from the communications company are scheduled to go before the zoning hearing board on July 23 and then before commissioners on July 28.

They are seeking a conditional use application for a pole at 1500 Pacific Ave., on property owned by the school district.

The specific parcel sits near California Avenue, behind the baseball field in a strip of grass used by the track team for discus throwing.

There is an existing pole near the discus pad, township Manager Amy Rockwell said.

“AT&T is requesting a variance to replace the existing baseball field light pole with a communication monopole/baseball field light pole,” she said.

They also would place new landscaping around the base of the pole and a new wooden fence around the equipment compound, which would include cabinets and an emergency generator.

The public hearing is at 6 p.m. July 28, prior to the board’s regular meeting.
