This is the front of the West Penn AAA office off of Leechburg Road in Lower Burrell after a car crashed into the building in Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020. The driver and an employee at the front of the the store were injured.

After a car plunged through the storefront of AAA Travel Insurance office in Lower Burrell’s Crossroads Plaza and demolished the entrance, the motor club plans to reopen on Monday.

On Thursday, AAA declined to release an update on the condition of an AAA employee who was injured because of privacy issues, said Jim Garrity, public relations manager for AAA East Central in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty.

The employee, a woman, was pushed into the front counter after the Toyota Prius crashed through the storefront.

Seven AAA employees work out of the Lower Burrell branch along Leechburg Road, according to Garrity.

The condition of the elderly driver also was unknown. Authorities took him to a hospital to be evaluated after the crash, Lower Burrell Police Chief John Marhefka said.

Marhefka did not answer questions regarding why the crash occurred, saying it remains under investigation.

The front doorway was destroyed, Garrity said He didn’t have an estimate for the damages.

“They are working on cleaning up now,” he said Thursday.

Employees of the nail salon and the Fine Wine & Good Spirits located on either other side of the AAA office confirmed initial reports that neither of their retail spaces were damaged.
