The Pittsburgh Mills will say goodbye to its last national retailer this weekend.
Employees confirmed Friday the last day to shop at the mall’s Bath and Body Works location will be Saturday.
Bath and Body Works and Namdar Realty Group, which owns several companies that operate the mall, did not respond for a request for comment Friday morning.
In a series of exits, the mall has felt the blows of a few major retailers and restaurant losses in the past year. In September 2024, Panera Bread, a restaurant that had been in the Mills since its opening, announced it would be vacating its storefront to fill the former Steak ’n Shake restaurant building in the Village at Pittsburgh Mills near Lowe’s.
Panera was one of the few remaining businesses in the mall, which has a 75% vacancy rate, according to the township’s last count in October 2024.
In April, less than a year later, Macy’s in the Mills was put on the market, signaling another nail in the coffin of the beleaguered mall. Dick’s Sporting Goods was the mall’s only remaining anchor tenant until June. The store made its exit, replaced by a new location at The Waterworks shopping center near Aspinwall — just 9 miles from the Mills.
Bath and Body Works and Jo-Ann were the only national retailers remaining until Jo-Ann Fabrics closed its doors just months later due to the company declaring bankruptcy.
Mills property paving scheduled
Despite another store exit, travelers visiting the Mills property have been able to rest a little easier regarding the longevity of their tires.
Beginning Aug. 27, workers were spotted throughout the Mills complex filling potholes. Since then, potholes have been filled along the Mills Drive entrance, in front of the previous Dick’s store, to Fashion Drive and ending at Walmart.
“They didn’t finish all of it, but they got a big chunk of it done,” said Frazer building inspector Bill Payne.
He said Namdar is scheduled to pave Village Center Drive from the stop light to Walmart on Nov. 3 through Nov. 6. Sections of the road in front of Lowes in Village at the Pittsburgh Mills will be part of the paving project.
It’s supposed to be a full 6 inches of pavement.
“They’re actually going to be removing the old paving and then redo it,” Payne said.
