A 71-year-old bicycle rider was injured Tuesday when his bike hit the side of an SUV in Gilpin, township police said.

Sam Iusi of Gilpin was riding a bike on Route 66 north toward Bethel Township near Jack Road at about 10 a.m. when his bicycle collided with the side of a vehicle driven by Susan Hilty, 71, of Allegheny Township, Patrolman Chad Shupe said.

He said the SUV’s passenger side mirror was torn off.

The bicycle’s handlebar was twisted.

Iusi was taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. His condition wasn’t available.

Shupe said the incident is under investigation.
