Birdville Troop welcomes new Eagle Scouts

Birdville Troop 186

Birdville Scout Troop 186 recently honored three new Eagle Scouts, recipients of the highest rank in Scouting, at the troop’s 68th annual Eagle Awards Banquet at Patterson Hall, Most Blessed Sacrament Worship Site, in Harrison.

They are Andrew Karmazin, Alexander Godinez, and Keegan Babinsack.

Andrew, 17, son of Mike and Karen Karmazin, is an Eagle Scout with Silver Palm, signifying 15 merit badges beyond the 21 required for Eagle. He joined the troop in 2020, and served his unit as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, troop guide, quartermaster, chaplain aide and junior assistant scoutmaster; and earned 40 merit badges. Andrew received the Gettysburg Heritage Trail and Brownsea Island Honor Camper awards. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Andrew and his team planted a pollinator garden at Burtner House in Harrison. A junior at Highlands High School, he enjoys spending time outdoors, photography and playing guitar. Andrew plans to attend Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters’ Technical Center in Pittsburgh location and start a carpentry business or become a Catholic priest.

Alex, 18, son of Lucas and Danielle Godinez, is an Eagle Scout with Silver and Gold Palms, signifying 25 merit badges beyond those required for Eagle. He joined the troop in 2019, and has served his unit as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, chaplain aide, scribe, troop guide, assistant senior patrol leader, quartermaster, and junior assistant scoutmaster; and earned 49 merit badges. Alex received the Gettysburg Heritage Trail Award, is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Alex and his team built a Rosary prayer garden at St. Victor Church, in West Deer. A senior at Deer Lakes High School in West Deer, he participated in varsity volleyball, and is vice president of National Honor Society and Student Council; and co-President of K5 Early Education Tutoring. He works at Trocki’s Automotive service, and plans to study biomedical engineering in college with a view toward a career in stem cell and CRISPR-technology research.

Keegan, 18, son of John and Kristie Babinsack, is an Eagle Scout with Gold Palm, signifying 10 merit badges beyond those required for Eagle. He joined the troop in 2021, and served as patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, chaplain aide, and junior assistant scoutmaster; and earned a total of 31 merit badges. Keegan received the Heritage Iron Scout Award and is an Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Keegan and his team assembled two flag retirement boxes and installed them at Highlands High School and Hilltop Hose Company. A senior at Highlands High School, Harrison, Keegan he participated in the school musical productions of “The Addams Family”, “Descendants” and “Footloose,” Honors Choir, National Honor Society and the Superintendent’s Student Cabinet; received the Everyday Hero Award and competed in varsity football, wrestling, track and field, and basketball. He is a junior firemen with Hilltop Hose Company, and works part-time at Walmart. Keegan plans to study aviation in college and become a pilot.

Birdville Troop 186 is open to boys and girls age 11 to 18 and meets during the school year at the Most Blessed Sacrament worship site in Harrison, and during the summer at Harrison Hills Park
