Bouquet Park Pool board’s strategy to reduce the cost for membership drew close to 150 members, but they are still shy 100 new memberships to stay open, according to pool board member Kellie Vergerio of Springdale.

The good news is the new membership drive bested last year’s total of 114 members, she said.

Although the Springdale pool’s board gave a March 1 deadline to raise 250 memberships or close the pool for the season, some board members like Vergerio want to extend the membership for at least another two weeks.

The private pool’s board will meet Tuesday evening to decide on next steps, she said.

Vergerio said she was encouraged by the turn-out of area residents in the last week to buy memberships.

“One of the reasons we’re going to try to extend is because some people are waiting for money from their income tax returns,” she said.

Applications are available on the Bouquet Park Pool Facebook page and at a number of local businesses and the Springdale Free Public Library.
