Brackenridge residents will pay the same amount in property taxes next year after council approved the borough’s $1.1 million budget.

Council voted Dec. 2 to maintain the real estate tax rate of 6.2 mills — the same as it has been since 2018.

“It’s a tight budget,” Borough Secretary Denise Tocco said.

The owner of a home assessed at $100,000 will again pay $620 in borough property taxes.

The borough’s 2022 budget is nearly identical to this year’s.

The water rate, Tocco said, also will remain the same. Property owners will pay $40.28 for up to 4,000 gallons.

Tocco said the pandemic did not have much impact on the budget and that there are no major expenses planned for 2022.

“Every other year, we get money for rental licenses,” Tocco said. “Next year we won’t.”

Most of the budget is spent on wages.

Council approved $459,200 for the police budget, down slightly from $479,500 this year. There will be $281,590 set aside for the street department, up from $270,000.

Administrative wages will cost the borough $65,256.

Cleveland Avenue to be paved

Residents can look forward to at least one road project: Cleveland Avenue is slated for paving next year.

Council hopes to inspect the road in the spring. It sits between Seventh and Eighth avenues and is intersected by Prospect Street.

Money would come from the state’s liquid fuels fund. The cost is uncertain.

“Cleveland Avenue is the priority,” Tocco said. “That’s the one we’re hoping to get done.”

Council meets next at 4 p.m. on Jan. 3 for its reorganization meeting at the borough building along Brackenridge Avenue.
