Harrison police said they used surveillance camera footage, license plate readers and help from other departments to track down a Brackenridge man suspected of stealing a car on Christmas Eve.

Terry Alan Montgomery, 51, is accused of taking a 2008 Hyundai Accent that was parked in the 2000 block of Freeport Road in Harrison.

Harrison police Chief Mike Klein said two police sergeants were able to determine the car was still in the area after using the surveillance camera footage and information from license plate readers.

“They asked Brackenridge police to see if the car was at Montgomery’s residence (in Brackenridge) and it was,” Klein said, noting the car was parked behind his Eighth Avenue house.

Montgomery was arrested without incident.

Police charged Montgomery with two counts of theft, unauthorized use of a car and receiving stolen property.

Court records show Montgomery already was facing similar charges in connection with a Nov. 17 incident in Brackenridge. Charges of theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked license were held to court in late November, records show.

Records list Montgomery’s attorney as Allegheny County public defender Julia Marie Gitelman. She couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday.
