The 13,000 daily motorists who use Route 366, also known as Greensburg Road, should allot more travel time when a nearly $1 million bridge replacement project begins next week and reduces the busy road to one lane near Millers Lane in Lower Burrell.

Single-lane traffic will be regulated by a temporary traffic light.

The project could start as early as next Wednesday, depending on the weather, and last for about three months, according to Dominec A. Caruso, PennDOT assistant construction engineer.

PennDOT chose to use an alternating lane rather than shut down the road and do both sides at once because of the high traffic volume and the lack of a viable detour in the area, according to PennDOT officials.

During construction, Millers Lane will be closed and a detour will use Pacmil Street to Pacific Avenue.

PennDOT is replacing the crumbling bridge because it is structurally deficient. Built in 1939, the bridge spans an unnamed tributary of Puckety Creek. The contractor, Pugliano Construction of Pittsburgh, will remove the existing 14-foot slab bridge and replace it with a 15-foot-long, precast box culvert.

Workers also will pave up to 200 feet of roadway on each end of the span and 50 feet of nearby Millers Lane.

There also will be minor roadway approach work, drainage and guardrail upgrades, new signs and pavement markings, and utility relocations, according to Caruso.
