Tyler Huth’s passion for sports cards and related memorabilia has led him to open a store dedicated to collectibles in downtown Freeport.

Huth opened G&T Sports Cards Plus on Sept. 8 at 320 Fifth St., the former Camerlo’s Market location.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do since I was a little kid,” said Huth, 34, a Buffalo Township resident.

“I was selling cards and bobbleheads at September by the River in Freeport. Then, after covid came along, I’d go to the WalMart and buy a box of cards and enjoy the feel of opening a fresh pack of cards. My son is also into card collecting, and I thought this is something we can do together.”

Indeed, Garrett Huth, 9, might be the youngest entrepreneur in the Alle-Kiski Valley.

Tyler said his son already has a business instinct to buy more merchandise with money from his previous sales and to set aside some money so he can buy a truck when he is old enough to drive.

Garrett attends Buffalo Elementary School in the Freeport Area School District.

Tyler Huth gave up his career in the HVAC business to open the shop in Freeport’s Mercantile Building.

He said his store has received a positive reception from those in Freeport and the surrounding communities.

“My plans are to build a website when this gets off the ground, financially,” Huth said.

“We already have a Facebook site and sell things on eBay.”

Besides sports cars, G&T sells autographed jerseys of famous athletes, such as Al Oliver, Ke’Bryan Hayes and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Sales come with a certificate of authenticity.

G&T sells more than just sports items.

Movie fans are also in for a treat as one sports jersey commemorates Jason Voorhees from “Friday the 13th” movie fame.

Huth reminds customers that a trip to Camp Crystal Lake isn’t included with the purchase of a Jason jersey.

Cards from the movies in the “Star Wars” franchise also are available, along with Fortnite stickers.

“We’re trying to appeal to as many people as possible,” Tyler said.

The display area also includes unopened packs of baseball cards featuring the iconic slice of pink chewing gum.

Huth and his family are, perhaps, best known for their stunning display of Christmas lights at their Parker Road home in Buffalo Township and the drive-thru holiday light display at Freeport’s Laube Hall.

Even with the responsibilities of the store, Huth said he and his family plan to continue those displays.
