An event to boost communication and collaboration in the Burrell School District community drew almost 1,000 people and 60 vendors.

Burrell Community Connections, held Thursday evening at Charles A. Huston Middle School, brought together people from the community, school district, city government and local businesses.

Activities included a “clothing closet” for distribution of free clothes and hygiene products; student musical performances; and an area for science and technology games featuring robotics, drones and crafts.

Vendors weaved through the school’s hallways, library and gymnasium. Food trucks were available in the parking lot.

Attendees were encouraged to share feedback and comments about happenings and issues in the school district.

“I loved to see our school and community come together to learn about and support one another,” said Autumn Turk, Burrell’s director of curriculum and development. “It is a blessing to raise my family in the Burrell community, and I couldn’t be more proud of how our Burrell students and staff are working to engage with our community in a meaningful way.”
