Burrell High School teacher faces multiple charges involving 18 minors and alcohol
A Burrell High School teacher is facing charges after, police say, they found 18 minors drinking alcohol during a party at her house July 24, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
Heather McKallip, 52, of Lower Burrell was charged Friday with 16 counts each of corruption of minors and child endangerment, 18 counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor and a count of disorderly conduct.
McKallip is a health and physical education teacher in Burrell School District, the district’s administration office confirmed Monday.
Superintendent Shannon Wagner did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Officers responded to McKallip’s Chester Drive home at 1:30 a.m. for a noise complaint and found a group of minors, some of whom were holding beers, the complaint said. Police said it was the second time they had been called to the home for a noise issue that night.
McKallip told authorities that she and two other adults, all of whom police said appeared to be intoxicated, had just arrived at the house and claimed they were unaware the party was happening until they got there, according to the complaint.
Officers went through the home and rounded up the minors, one of whom told police that McKallip had been at home all night, the complaint said. Two minors escaped into nearby woods, police said.
Police said they administered breath tests to 18 minors, all of whom had been drinking. The minors were cited for underage drinking and picked up by their parents, the complaint said.
A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 20 before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec.
McKallip did not have an attorney listed in online court records and could not be reached for comment.
