Arnold City Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019.

A vacancy on Arnold city council will need to be filled in January.

The city is accepting letters of interest for the vacant seat until the close of business on Jan. 10.

That seat is now held by Joe Bia II, who defeated Karen Peconi for mayor in the Democratic primary in May. He was unopposed in the November general election and takes office as mayor in January.

Bia had two years left on his first term on council. He was elected to council in 2017.

Letters of interest can be submitted to City Clerk Mario Bellavia.

The council will meet to reorganize at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the public safety building, 601 Drey St.

Councilman Anthony Sgalio is leaving council. George Hawdon was elected to council in November, while Philip McKinley was reelected; both are Democrats.

Arnold also is seeking applicants to replace Mary Lou Bitar on the Peoples Library board. The city will accept applications until Jan. 30.

Bitar told officials she resigned from the library board to spend more time with her family.
