A car struck a building in downtown New Kensington on Friday afternoon, leaving the vehicle totaled and some damage to the building.

Crews responded to the corner of 11th and Barnes streets in New Kensington for the crash at around 4:45 p.m.

Assistant Fire Chief B.J. Kersey said the car came down the ramp and into the private building.

It’s not clear what may have led to the crash.

The two occupants of the car — both in their 90s, Kersey said — were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

“No major injuries, just to get check-ups and make sure nothing’s wrong,” Kersey said.

The car was totaled. Hawk Towing of New Kensington removed the car from the scene.

Kersey estimated about $10,000 worth of damage to the building. The city’s streets department worked to board up the hole.
