A man was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville by ambulance after crashing his vehicle on Route 356 in Allegheny Township Saturday afternoon, according to Westmoreland 911 and township police.

The one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:30 p.m. just south of the Freeport Bridge, near the intersection of Crain Road.

The crash brought utility lines down across the entire road, causing it to be closed until after midnight, township police said. It was not known when the road reopened to traffic.

The man, from Allegheny Township and believed to be in his early 30s, was alone in his vehicle. He suffered unknown injuries and his condition on Sunday was not known, police said. Police did not release his name.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, police said. No charges had been filed as of Sunday night.

A motorist driving in the same direction captured video of the SUV as it passed them and then started going into the opposite lanes of traffic. The SUV continued off the road and up the side of an embankment, crashing through a power pole along the way. Power lines fell across all four lanes of traffic as a result.

Other motorists took photos, as well.

West Penn Power was reporting about 20 customers were still without power at about 6:30 p.m., with power expected to return at about 8:30 p.m.
