Charges pending in Harrison crash that killed 11-year-old girl
Roxanne Bonnoni’s family might finally get closure.
Authorities are poised to file charges nearly a year after the 11-year-old was struck and killed near her home in the Natrona section of Harrison.
“Before charging decisions were made, it was important that the District Attorney had the opportunity to meet with Roxanne’s parents,” said Emma Federkeil, communications director for Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr.
Allegheny County Police have been authorized to file charges in connection with the incident, Federkeil said.
Bonnoni was hit by a Jeep Patriot last Aug. 20 along North Canal Street. Police never released the name of the driver but said the driver stayed at the scene after the crash.
Jim Madalinsky, a county police spokesman, said the department was notified Tuesday that charges were approved and that detectives are in the process of filing them.
It is unclear when the charges are expected to be filed or what specific charges could be filed.
Amber Bonnoni, Roxanne’s mom, said she would issue a comment through her attorney in coming days.
In the months after the crash, there was a public outpouring of support for the family, with a GoFundMe that raised nearly $19,000 to help with expenses.
A memorial of stuffed animals, photos and handwritten notes still sits outside the family home.
