Cheswick man pulled from burning home died later
A Cheswick man who was pulled from his burning home Friday night has died.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim Saturday as Darryl Joseph Hamley, 54.
Fire Chief Rick Franks said firefighters from Oakmont and Springdale quickly responded to the duplex at 1419 Pittsburgh St.
“He was found unconscious on the second floor,” Franks said Friday night, before he learned of the victim’s death. “Firefighters brought him down and assisted the medics.”
Hamley was administered CPR at the scene and taken to UPMC St. Margaret near Aspinwall.
The fire was reported about 7:40 p.m. Hamley died at the hospital an hour later, according to the medical examiner.
Franks said he arrived at the scene to find the fire contained to the kitchen at the back of the house and heavy smoke throughout the rest of that side of the duplex.
Crews began clearing the area about 8:30 p.m.
Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Firefighters from Tarentum and Frazer also responded to the call, as well as crews from Lower Valley, Parkview and Eureka Fire-Rescue-EMS.
Traffic along Pittsburgh Street was rerouted at the Sheetz and Cheswick Plaza.
