Coat collection helps Highlands students be winter-ready
Highlands School District is collecting coats to help keep students warm this winter.
The sixth annual Winter Ready Rams program kicked off this week and will run through Oct. 24.
New or gently used warm clothes can be donated at home football games or at one of four locations: 200 Banbury Lane, Harrison; 233 Chinkapin Drive, Harrison; 69 Spruce Street, Harrison; and 309 Bridge Street, Tarentum.
Organizer Christina Faltot said, in years past, more than 300 coats have been collected, but it’s still not enough to fill the need.
“Every year, the kids grow and have needs,” she said.
Hoodies, gloves, coats and scarves are needed in all sizes for students in kindergarten through high school. Hoodies are especially sought for older students.
In the first five years, the program has brought in more than 1,000 coats, along with other cold-weather gear.
“A reminder that love and kindness can make a difference,” Faltot said.
Collection boxes will be set up near the concession stand when the Rams host New Castle at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at Golden Rams Stadium.
