Several chunks of concrete fell from the Tarentum Bridge on Monday morning, but no one was hurt and no damage was reported below, according to officials.

The pieces appeared to fall shortly before 9 a.m. from the eastern edge of the bridge, which carries about 30,000 vehicles a day across the Allegheny River.

The pieces landed on the edge of Fourth Avenue.

PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said the concrete fell from the ramp that carries traffic from the main span northbound over East First and East Fourth avenues.

He said crews inspected the area and didn’t find any other sections in imminent danger of falling. He said crews will be back in the area next week to check for any additional loose concrete and will remove it if necessary.

Cowan added that the ramp is currently in design for preservation work which is anticipated to be let later this year.
