Conley retains Upper Burrell supervisor seat
Mike Conley will serve another six years on Upper Burrell’s board of supervisors.
Conley, 60, had 438 votes, or 62.48%, compared to 263 votes, or 37.52%, from challenger Cari Armstrong, 40, according to unofficial but complete vote tallies from the Westmoreland County Elections Department.
“I certainly appreciated all the support,” Conley said. “I’m ready to serve the next six years.”
Conley, a Republican, works as the township’s roadmaster. He is a lifelong Upper Burrell resident and first served on the board from 1991 to 2005. He was elected to his current term on the board in 2017.
His priorities on the board are to rebuild the police department and improve the township’s roads, he said.
Armstrong sought elected office for the first time. She works as an end-of-life doula, which is a person who assists a dying person and their family through the dying process.
A seven-year resident of the township, Armstrong said she was running for supervisor to serve the township, increase transparency of what’s happening in Upper Burrell and foster a stronger sense of community.
“It was wonderful to see such a high voter turnout in a municipal election here in Upper Burrell. Mike and I both ran positive campaigns, and our residents turned out as a result. I am grateful to those who supported me and will continue to be an active and engaged member in our township,” Armstrong said.
“This campaign gave me the opportunity to meet many wonderful people in our township and learn more about what their visions for our community are. I look forward to bringing forth new ideas and working with the board in caring for Upper Burrell. I congratulate Mike on his victory and wish him much success as supervisor.”
