Student talent is set to shine at the 2019 Leechburg Arts Expo on Thursday .

Hosted by Leechburg Area School District’s art, music and Creation Nation departments, this collaborative effort offers a free, community-inspired evening showcasing students’ musical talents and artistic creations.

The annual expo is free and open to the public.

“Last year, this was a new event and we had more than 300 people attend and the night really exceeded expectations,” Leechburg high school art teacher Shayle Prorok said. “We want to make this bigger each year. It’s all about celebrating the arts.”

Hundreds of art displays from students in grades K to 12 will be on display throughout the school.

Media will include papier-mache, painting, drawing, mosaics, ceramics, sculptures and 3-D creations.

Complimentary face painting, and arts and crafts will be available.

Look for pop-up musical performances featuring trombone, piano and marimba/percussion instruments.

Choirs from both the elementary and high school will perform in the auditorium.

An interactive wooden crayon mural will invite attendees to add their own creative addition to the art piece that will adorn a yet-to-be determined location in Leechburg.

“This event specifically includes the visual, creative, performance and digital arts,” Prorok said.

Leechburg advanced art senior Emilie Boehm missed last year’s inaugural arts expo but said she is ready this year.

“I am looking forward to displaying many of my art pieces and I love this event because I can show off what I am capable of,” Boehm said. “I love when we are setting up and seeing everyone’s diverse artwork. It’s really cool to see our different styles.”

Crafts, demonstrations and music performances will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the library, auditorium, cafeteria, Creation Nation and skywalk.

“It’s like an open house of the arts — for anyone. We encourage everyone to attend, not just parents of students,” Prorok said.

New this year is an option to purchase food. The Girls Lunchbox food truck will be parked outside on Siberian Avenue, selling their signature loaded tater tots, pulled pork and other offerings.

“We want the community to see what our district is doing,” Prorok said. “We may be a small district, but we have big talent.”
