One person was hurt in a fire that seriously damaged a house in Harrison early Friday morning, Hilltop Hose fire Chief Mike Krzeminski said.

The fire in the attic of a large, two-and-a-half story house with a commercial addition at 1421 Freeport Road was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m.

A man in the house suffered smoke inhalation and was taken by ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison. Krzeminski did not know his condition, but said his injury was not believed to be life-threatening.

Krzeminski did not know how many people lived in the house.

Firefighters from Hilltop, Citizens Hose and Harrison Hills in Harrison and Eureka in Tarentum responded.

Firefighters contained the fire to the attic, and had it under control in about 30 minutes, Krzeminski said. Crews were at the scene for almost three hours.

No firefighters were hurt.

There were holes in the attic floor from the fire, and smoke and water damage to the rest of the house, which Krzeminski said is too damaged to be occupied. The commercial spaces are separate and were not affected, he said.

Krzeminski said getting to the fire was challenging because of the size of the building.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
