Crews across the Alle-Kiski Valley battled a house fire with hoarding conditions Wednesday morning in Lower Burrell.

The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. in the 4000 block of James Drive. Upon arrival, crews saw smoke showing in the basement and rear of the building, said Brennan Sites, chief of Lower Burrell Vol. Fire Co. 3.

No one was home at the time of the fire, he said.

No injuries were reported.

“We were met with hoarding conditions in the basement,” Sites said, although he added the hoarding did not have a big impact on firefighters getting to the fire.

The structure is not a total loss, he said.

The fire appeared to start in the basement, Sites said. It’s unclear what started it. The state police fire marshal is investigating, he said.

“We kind of know the location, but not what caused it to start,” he said.

Among the fire companies that responded were Lower Burrell, Kinloch, Upper Burrell, New Kensington, Arnold, Logans Ferry, and Summit Hose from Tarentum and Pioneer Hose out of Brackenridge.
