Demolition of Plum's old borough building underway
Demolition of Plum’s former borough building is underway.
The work is being done by Massarelli Excavating & Demolition, which at $64,890 had submitted the lowest of six bids.
In addition to tearing down the borough’s former offices at 4575 New Texas Road, which the borough moved out of almost two years ago, the project includes tearing down the old emergency medical services and public works buildings and a salt shed, all on the 8.2-acre property.
The borough received a $250,000 state grant to pay for the work.
The borough’s offices and police department are now at its municipal center on Mike Thomas Way, near the Renton area.
The borough hopes to redevelop the property, along with two smaller parcels it owns adjoining it. Officials have been meeting with developers who have expressed interest and have commissioned a study to find how it could best be used.
The neighboring Plum Borough Municipal Authority building is a separate parcel and not included in plans.
