The Western PA Diaper Bank is seeking donations to continue providing needed diapers to low- and moderate-income families amid the coronavirus crisis. The bank distributed 24,000 diapers during the week of March 16, 2020.

The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank is looking for volunteers to help repackage donated diapers .

The event, scheduled for June 19 at 5 p.m., will take place at Lynch Field in Greensburg. Volunteers will wrap 25 diapers in plastic wrap while another group will distribute them to 26 social service agencies in the region, two of which are in Westmoreland County. From there, the diapers are distributed to families in need.

“While we can’t organize small groups for weekly repackaging, what we can do is come together as a county for packaging in the park,” a post on the diaper banks Facebook page reads. “Get your team together; families, co-workers, friends, or come by yourself and enjoy the beauty of the Five Star Trial.”

During one week in March, 24,000 diapers were distributed to low- and moderate-income families in an effort to support those impacted by the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the nonprofit, one in three American families experiences “diaper need.”

Other diaper drive-thrus are scheduled throughout the month. The schedule includes: East Primary Elementary School in Vandergrift on Monday from 11 a.m. to noon and at 340 Church St., Donegal, on June 18 from noon to 1 p.m.

Those who volunteer for the event are encouraged to set up on the lawn and they can stay as long they like. Diapers, plastic wrap, water and snacks will be provided.

A registration form for the event can be filled out at facebook.com/WesternPADiaperBank.

Those who are unable to volunteer can send monetary donations directly to the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $14,000 for the nonprofit. Diapers, wipes and feminine hygiene products can be dropped off at their North Point Breeze location in Pittsburgh.

“Register yourself or a team of up to four, practice counting to 25, and let’s get together and Wrap Westmoreland,” the post reads.
