Leechburg man identified as early Friday crash victim on Route 28 in O'Hara
A Leechburg man was killed in an early morning crash Friday in O’Hara, according to state police.
The crash occurred along the southbound lanes of Route 28 near the RIDC Industrial Park shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, an Allegheny County 911 shift commander said.
According to state police, Robert L. Ziegenhagen, 40, was traveling southbound in a 2001 Volkswagen Passat at a high rate of speed when he appeared to swerve to the right to avoid slower moving traffic.
The brakes of the vehicle locked up, police said, and the car slid off the right shoulder, striking an embankment.
The vehicle rolled multiple times, ejecting Ziegenhagen. He was taken to UPMC St. Margaret hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The roadway remained closed for several hours.
