Donations are needed for the second annual Small Town Christmas event in Harrison’s Sheldon Park neighborhood.

The event was first held last year to help bring together and heal the community in the wake of two shootings. It ended up filling the void left when the township’s own parade and festival were canceled because of rain.

This year’s event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Lloyd Hayden Center on Park Avenue.

A parade is not part of this year’s Small Town Christmas event because the township held its parade and festival on Saturday, said Autumn Monaghan, a member of the Highlands Partnership Network steering committee. The network is organizing the event with the Sheldon Park Resident Council.

This year’s event, again open to the entire Highlands community, will include a light up night, live performances, Christmas caroling, food and raffle giveaways.

Donations sought to help stage the event include gift cards or gift baskets for the raffle; money to offset costs; use of generators or outdoor heating lamps; food such as cookies, beverages, hot dogs, buns and candy; and groups to volunteer to decorate and host activity stations.

To donate or arrange to have a donation picked up, contact Monaghan at 724-393-2356. Donations can be mailed to Allegheny Family Network, 1600 Pacific Ave., Suite 10, Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
