The driver of a tractor-trailer truck was injured late Thursday morning after he lost control of his truck and it flipped onto its side on the off-ramp of Route 28 near Tarentum.
State police charged the driver, Brian Dawson, 52, of Cabot, with driving a vehicle at unsafe speeds.
State police Tpr. John Pomaybo said the driver reported he was going around 30 miles per hour when he felt the truck lose control as he was going down the curved exit ramp. The truck flipped onto its side and the scrap metal it was carrying spilled onto the grassy area between the ramp and Bull Creek Road (Route 366).
The truck struck a guardrail before it came to a stop.
There was no hazardous material amid the cargo.
“I think (he) was just driving too fast in these conditions,” Pomaybo said.
Police said Dawson was transported to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of a minor injury.
Part of the exit ramp was closed while the spilled material was cleaned up.
