Tim Klanica of Penn Hills looks back at a Valley News Dispatch article about him.

Building an internet show with more than 200 episodes has been a lengthy process for Tim Klanica, but it’s a journey he is proud to have undertaken.

Launched from humble beginnings, Klanica’s “LoudMouthTim” web show is celebrating its 20th year of programming.

His web show can be found on loudmouthtim.com, along with random thoughts, viewer submitted photos and background information about himself. He created the modest website on his own in 2002.

Klanica, 52, of Penn Hills grew up in Allegheny Township, where he graduated from Kiski Area High School in 1988. Following graduation, he served in the Army from 1988 to 1992.

After the Army, Klanica went through a period of being between jobs but remained persistent.

“No one ever got ahead by taking ‘no’ for an answer,” Klanica said.

Klanica advertised that he was available to do computer repairs. That led to a career path in the computer field, including working as an IT contractor for the past 10 years. For the past six years, Klanica has focused on data center network and hardware support.

“I like doing the technical stuff,” he said.

In late 2002, Klanica parlayed his computer and internet knowledge into creating his web show. He said he was inspired by other online shows that he watched at the time.

Klanica aired his first show on April 1, 2003, using a self-built computer.

“Back then, a video was very small, like a postage stamp-size video,” he said.

Klanica began reinventing and reprogramming his laptop to keep up with the times. His computer repair background was useful as he researched how to solve problems, install new parts and add necessary software upgrades to help streamline his videos.

“From then on, I’d say, ‘Well, I can make a better deal for myself, building the system myself with the parts I need,’ ” he said.

In his first episode, titled “Man on a Mission,” Klanica provides an overview of what to expect of his web show. His show expresses opinions on various topics, such as daily life events, avoiding scams, and bitcoin mining, among others, and allows readers and guests to engage digitally in the conversation.

As the web show evolved, he sometimes welcomed guests to sit down and join the conversation.

Scott Arthur, a Natrona Heights native and Klanica’s longtime friend, was a guest for a few episodes.

“Tim explained it to me and what it is, is like almost having an internet talk show,” Arthur said.

There are a few episodes where you can find Arthur and Klanica sharing their opinions. In other episodes, such as No. 132, you will find vlog-style videos of them doing activities outdoors.

In addition to being a guest, Arthur sometimes shares ideas with Klanica for show topics.

“We could come out and say what we have to say,” Arthur said. “Then people could watch our reactions.”

As someone familiar with Klanica’s passion, Arthur has supported his friend over the 20 years they have known each other.

“That’s all it was with me, was experiencing everything and seeing what people’s reactions were with the videos,” Arthur said. “And learning about each other.”

As time went on, Klanica knew he wanted to build a stronger connection and more interaction with viewers.

“I don’t expect every (show) to be a smash hit, you know, some do better than others,” Klanica said.

Although gaining more viewers and subscribers has been challenging, Klanica continues to produce more videos.

He also pulls shorter clips from his web shows and posts them on his YouTube channel “LoudmouthTim.” The channel has 336 subscribers.

On Feb. 25, 2007, Klanica posted his first YouTube video, a two-minute, 40-second clip pulled from Episode 63 of the web show, titled “Richard Returns.”

The video description on YouTube reads: “Richard ‘Agee’ Maxwell, the well known local lunatic in Natrona Heights, PA, sings one of his songs with a tin drum. This one speaks of school bus drivers on crack, school yards, the value of education, and does it in a funny and amusing way.”

The video quickly garnered nearly 30,000 views.

Since then, Klanica has posted clips from numerous episodes in addition to sharing some of his life experiences on YouTube.

With the web show still humming along after 20 years, Klanica has realized that his journey has led him down the right path.

“You find out what you’re good at, then you find a way to get paid for it,” he said.
