Head-on collision on Route 28 in Armstrong County claims 2 lives
Two people are dead following a head-on crash of two pick-up trucks Wednesday morning along Route 28 in Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.
State police identified the victims as Tyler Zeigler, 28, of Butler, and Mark Kirkpatrick, 59, of Summerville, Clarion County.
The head-on crash happened on Routes 28/66 near Wadding Road, also known as Hogback Hill near Deanville Road. The road was closed for several hours afterward and reopened around 10 a.m.
Police said Zeigler’s gray Dodge Ram 2500 was being driven northbound when the truck crossed over the double yellow line and into the southbound lane, where it hit a 2019 Ford F-250 pickup driven southbound by Kirkpatrick.
Zeigler died at the scene and Kirkpatrick was taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin where he died, according to Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers.
The coroner said the causes of deaths were multiple blunt force trauma.
The manner of death was ruled accidental.
The coroner’s office and state police continue to investigate. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
Funeral arrangements for Zeigler are being handled by Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg, and Kirkpatrick’s are being handled by Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn.
The coroner’s office was assisted at the scene by Kittanning station troopers the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, Distant and New Bethlehem volunteer fire companies, and Clarion EMS.
