A Fawn man who was wanted on an arrest warrant was ordered to stand trial on charges he tried to disarm a New Kensington police officer who took him into custody.

Peter William Mlynar, 37, of the 300 block of Sugar Loaf Lane was charged Nov. 22 with a felony count of disarming a police officer along with counts of resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.

Mlynar was held for court on all charges following a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. Formal arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 17 in Westmoreland County Court.

Mlynar, who was wanted on an an arrest warrant in Westmoreland County for previously fleeing from police, was stopped while driving along Route 366, according to a criminal complaint.

He was accused of trying to grab for the officer’s gun when the officer tried to take him into custody.

Court records show Lower Burrell police charged Mlynar in September 2022 with fleeing from police, driving with a suspended license and driving a vehicle that wasn’t registered or inspected.

He was ordered to stand trial on the charges in Westmoreland County Court. A bench warrant for his arrest was issued when he failed to show up for formal arraignment on May 10, court records show.
