Authorities are investigating what caused a fire Tuesday afternoon at Siemianowski Funeral Home in West Deer.

The fire was reported around 12:50 p.m. Volunteer fire departments including ones from West Deer and Rural Ridge responded.

“We’re not sure how it started or where the origin of ignition is,” said West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #1 Chief Luke Raynovich.

Raynovich said the fire appeared to have started somewhere in the attic of the one-story brick building. He said firefighters had some issues accessing the attic because it had only one exit and entry point.

Insulation in the attic burned, he said. Water damage inside the funeral home was worse than the fire damage, he said.

No one was injured.

A message left with the funeral home was not returned. It’s unknown whether the fire will affect any funerals.
