Fire guts Springdale townhouse
A Springdale townhouse was gutted by fire Saturday night, and two adjacent units sustained smoke damage as a result of the blaze, a Springdale official said.
No one was reported injured in the fire at the townhouse complex along South North Street, said Bruno Moretti, emergency management coordinator for Springdale. The two occupants of the townhouse where the fire occurred were taken to an area hospital for possible treatment of smoke inhalation as a precaution, Moretti said.
The cause of the two-alarm fire, which was reported at about 8:45 p.m., is under investigation by the Allegheny County fire marshal, Moretti said.
Flames broke through the apartment window before being extinguished.
“The firefighters did a heck of a job preventing it from spreading to the other units,” Moretti said.
The two adjacent units did sustain some smoke and water damage, but are habitable. Firefighters remained on the scene until around midnight, Moretti said.
Springdale fire chief Kevin Wilhelm could not be reached for comment Sunday.
Springdale firefighters were assisted by other departments, including East Deer, Allegheny Valley, Arnold, Logan’s Ferry and Pioneer Hose Co. in Brackenridge.
