About a dozen fire companies rushed to the scene of a fire that gutted a home in Plum on Thursday afternoon.
The blaze was reported just after 3:15 p.m. on the 200 block of Dombroski Avenue in the borough’s Logans Ferry Heights neighborhood. It was about a half-mile away from Logans Ferry Heights Volunteer Fire Department..
Logans Ferry Chief Matt Austin said no one was hurt in the fire, though the home will likely be a complete loss.
The sole occupant made it out of the home, he said.
Stacey Malak, a longtime neighbor, saw the blaze engulf the rear of the home before spreading to a nearby sedan.
“It was just black smoke billowing out,” she said.
Malak’s mother, Beverly Godleski, also lives nearby. The two said they were relieved to hear their neighbor escaped uninjured.
“I don’t care about the home, just the life,” Godleski said.
Austin said his crews arrived within minutes and knocked down the fire quickly.
“It was a phenomenal response,” he said.
Fire companies from the Alle-Kiski Valley and neighboring communities helped quell the blaze, including departments from Oakmont, Penn Hills, New Kensington, Springdale, Lower Burrell and several other Plum crews.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined, but Austin noted the kitchen was located in the rear of the home where the blaze was centered.
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal will investigate, Austin said.
