Firefighters battle house blaze in Washington Township
No injuries were reported in a house fire Wednesday morning in Washington Township.
Fire crews responded about 7:30 a.m. to a home in the 100 block of Hope Hollow Road.
Clayton Murphy, Washington Township fire chief, confirmed a man and a dog were not at home when the blaze broke out in the rural residential location off Old Mill Road and Route 66, just outside of Oklahoma Borough.
Murphy said the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to be electrical.
Gary Gardner, a volunteer firefighter with Apollo, who lives nearby, said he heard someone hollering and observed the fire.
“I saw a lot of flames, lots of smoke, and luckily no one was in the house,” Gardner said.
Murphy said the fire began upstairs in the home and was under control by about 8 a.m.
The homeowner was not available for comment and left the scene Wednesday morning, according to fire officials.
Murphy said a fire marshal from the state police out of Greensburg was on the scene to help with the investigation.
Responding fire companies included New Kensington, Murrysville, Markle, Bell Township, Allegheny Township, Apollo No. 2, Lower Burrell and Oklahoma Borough.
