Emergency responders from Verona and Oakmont reported to the Verona municipal building early Thursday morning after receiving reports of smoke in the building.

According to interim Verona Manager Jason Dailey, a smoke alarm in the building went off a little before 7 a.m. Responders discovered one of the building’s four furnaces had a burned control panel causing the unit to smoke.

The smoke was filtering from the building’s utility room through the vents and into other parts of the building.

“It was relatively quickly contained in that room,” Dailey said.

He said there was no damage to the buidling, no injuries and emergency responders were able to ventilate the building before it opened to the public. An HVAC company replaced the unit.

Dailey said there might still be a bit of a “charred” smell within the building, but it’s safe to enter and open to the public.
