First Commonwealth Bank has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for its new bank under construction at Highlands Mall in Harrison.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 9 at the new location at 4015 Freeport Road, in front of Walmart.

Light refreshments will be served at 11 a.m., with the ceremony starting at 11:30 a.m., the bank announced Tuesday.

The new location is scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9. It will be a full-service branch with a drive-up teller window, full-service ATM, safe deposit and night deposit, the bank has announced.

Harrison’s planning commission approved plans for the new bank in December.

First Commonwealth plans to close its existing branch in Heights Plaza at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
