Forum set for Harrison, Highlands primary candidates
The Harrison Township Democratic Committee is hosting a non-partisan public forum for township commissioner and Highlands School Board candidates.
The forum will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Drive. It’s off of Freeport Road near Harrison Hills Park.
Most school board candidates are confirmed to be attending, Democratic Committee member Clint Crowell said.
School board candidates include Judy Wisner and Gene Witt in Region I; Kelli Canonge in Region II; and Michelle Peters, Laura Butler and Kristie Babinsack in Region III.
All of the school board candidates are cross-filed as Democrats and Republicans, according to an updated candidate list provided by Allegheny County on Thursday.
Harrison commissioner candidates seeking the Democratic nomination are William Mitchell Sr. and Charles Dizard in the 1st Ward; Eric Bengel and Robin Bergstrom in the 3rd Ward; and Gary Meanor in the 5th Ward.
“The forum will serve as an opportunity for the candidates to meet with voters and share their messages regarding their potential roles as elected officials,” Crowell said.
The primary election is on May 21. Residents who wish to vote in the primary must be registered by Monday, April 22; registered voters who have moved or changed their name or party affiliation must also notify the county Elections Division by that date.
