4 Tarentum Council seats to be up for election this year

Four seats on Tarentum Council will be up for election this year instead of the usual three.

The extra race comes about because of the resignation of 3rd Ward Councilwoman Rhonda Dzugan. The six remaining council members accepted her resignation Thursday.

In her resignation email Tuesday, Dzugan cited family matters and not having time for her elected duties.

The borough is now accepting letters of interest for Dzugan’s seat, and council is expected to make an appointment in early February.

Three council seats will be up for election in November. Those seats are currently held by council President Erika Josefoski, 1st Ward; Carrie Fox, 3rd Ward; and Scott Dadowski, 2nd Ward.

As explained by borough Solicitor David Regoli, whoever is appointed to Dzugan’s council would serve through the remainder of this year only.

Because 2019 is a municipal election year, the seat will also be up for election this year.

If the person appointed wants to keep the seat, they would have to run in the election.

Whoever wins the election would then serve the remaining two years on Dzugan’s original four-year term, ending Dec. 31, 2021.
