Fox Chapel Area School Board member Kimberly Andrews said she’ll take away nothing but pride from her nearly three years spent serving the district.

The Aspinwall resident resigned Monday after announcing she would be returning to her native North Carolina.

“I have been honored to sit on the board and be a part of the community,” Andrews said.

“I worked with great staff and had the chance to meet great students. I hope to see a lot of them go on to make this world a better place.”

Board President Marybeth Dadd said Andrews served the district well.

“I have enjoyed working with Ms. Andrews,” Dadd said. “She brought a new and important perspective to the board that will be missed. I learned a great deal from her, and I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.”

Andrews’ term expires in 2025. The district is seeking applicants to fill the position.

Candidates must be at least 18 and live in Region III, which includes Aspinwall, Blawnox and Wards 1 and 5 of O’Hara and Districts 1 and 3 of Fox Chapel.

Candidates also must have lived in the district for at least one year.

Andrews, an artist, grew up in North Carolina where she was a student of renowned poet Maya Angelou. She moved to Pittsburgh after retiring from the U.S. Air Force and earned an MBA from Carlow University.

Before she leaves the area, Andrews will perform a poetry show April 27 that will serve as a farewell to the city, with a special nod to Fox Chapel Area.

“The message is beautiful, and it contains wisdom taken away from the leadership and membership of the district,” she said.

“I’ve poured my experience into my art.”

Anyone interested in filling Andrews’ position on the school board should submit an application and resume by noon April 26.

Interviews will be conducted during a special school board meeting at 7 p.m. April 29 at the high school. The meeting is open to the public.

The board is expected to appoint a candidate at that meeting.
