The second-annual Community Safety Event sponsored by the Fox Chapel Area School District, its school safety police, plus the communities, police and fire departments and emergency service agencies within the district, will feature a bike safety course like this one. The event has been moved to May 13 because of expected heavy rain on the originally scheduled date, April 22.

A forecast of bad weather has prompted Fox Chapel School District Police to move the second-annual Community Safety Event to Saturday, May 13.

The event had been scheduled for Saturday, April 22.

The event will from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Aspinwall municipal parking lot, 241 Freeport Road in Aspinwall.

All Fox Chapel Area School District families and residents are welcome to attend the free event.

It will feature bike helmets, T-shirts, and food, as well as a bike safety course, bike rides with police, bike repairs, games, and car seat checks. Residents can bring unused or unwanted prescription medication to be properly disposed of at the Aspinwall Police Department’s safe medication disposal box.

The Fox Chapel Area School District and its school resource officers are event sponsors as are the boroughs of Aspinwall, Blawnox, Fox Chapel, and Sharpsburg, the townships of Indiana and O’Hara plus all of the municipal police and fire departments and EMS agencies within the district.

“This event is a way to say thank you to the community on behalf of the officers because of the amazing support they receive at the school from the students and the parents. It’s also a way to bring together the community first responders in a fun environment where our students can meet others in the community who help to keep them safe,” said Joe Kozarian, chief of police and school safety and security officer for the school district.
