Fox Chapel Police Department and Foxwall EMS each hosted pumpkin-themed events.

Police officers transformed their station at 401 Fox Chapel Road into a pumpkin patch with about 90 children painting pumpkins on Oct. 21.

There were other crafts and a costume contest. Children received glow sticks and glowing wrist bands to use during trick or treat. Hotdogs, popcorn and drinks were also provided.

Cecilia Mousseau, 6, of Fox Chapel won the costume contest. She was dressed as Wednesday from the Addams Family complete with hand puppet Thing. She received a jack-0-lantern bucket full of candy, a Wendy’s coupon book, a cup and other trinkets.

The event was organized by police Sgt. Craig Sorg, who made sure everyone went home with at least one pumpkin.

Foxwall EMS training officer Jen Swab attended the police event, but she also organized a similar event Oct. 22 at Foxwall’s station along Hemlock Hollow Road.

People were asked to bring a pumpkin to carve. Foxwall provided food, snacks, a bonfire and other activities.

Swab said about 100 people from surrounding communities attended.

“We couldn’t be happier with the turnout, and we enjoyed being with the children and their parents,” she said. “Events such as these strengthen the relationship that we have with the communities that we serve.”
