A dozen free and low-cost spay and neuter clinics will be held for feral and pet cats in Tarentum from now through June.

The Homeless Cat Management Team holds the clinics at 207 Allegheny St.

Pre-registration is required and walk-ins are not permitted.

Free clinics for feral cats only are scheduled for Feb. 1 and 29, March 28, May 9 and 23 and June 20 — all dates are Saturdays. Ferals are cats that will be returned after surgery to the outdoor location where it was trapped.

Fast track clinics are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15, March 14, April 11, April 25 and June 6, also all Saturdays.

Those who register will be given appointment times to drop off and pick up their cats, said Bernadette Kazmarski, a team volunteer.

Feral and rescue cats can be treated at fast track clinics. Rescues are cats that have been or will be adopted as a pet after surgery.

The cost for ferals at fast track clinics is $30; fees for rescue/pet cats is $40 for males and $55 for females.

Both include rabies vaccine, flea treatment, and ear mite treatment, if necessary. Other treatments are available.

To pre-register for a clinic, call 412-321-4060 or email cathomeless@gmail.com.

In 2019, the Homeless Cat Management Team fixed more than 1,700 community and pet cats at 24 clinics. Nearly 1,000 cats were fixed for free, according to Lisa Lendl-Lander, team secretary.

Since it was founded in 1998, the team has fixed nearly 25,000 cats, she said.

Volunteers are needed for clinics. Information on volunteering is available on the team’s website; those interested in volunteering can also call 412-321-4060.
