Although the “Destination Moon: the Apollo 11 Mission” exhibit is over at the Heinz History Center, one of its historians is coming to Apollo to speak about the historic NASA mission on Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., for a free public event at the Women’s Christian Temperance Union of Apollo building, 317 North Second St. in Apollo.
The Apollo Historical Society is presenting a “Destination Moon” lecture featuring Emily Ruby, a curator from the Sen. John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
Admission is free but donations are welcome. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
The presentation kicks off the borough’s own celebration of the 50th anniversary of the historic moon landing, which it has celebrated with parades and carnivals in the past.
Ruby will talk about the exhibit as well as the mission, according to Sue Ott, vice president of the Apollo Historical Society.
The Destination Moon exhibition set attendance records at the history center, drawing roughly 100,000 visitors from Sept. 29 through Feb. 18.
