Freeport appoints Buffalo Township resident as new manager
Freeport has a new manager — its second in borough history.
Tina Ferringer, 56, is set to take on the role Sept. 2. A Buffalo Township resident, Ferringer has spent the last several years working as an administrative assistant at Armstrong School District.
Originally from Indiana County, Ferringer is an alumna of Marion Center Area High School and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has lived in Buffalo Township for about the last decade and had not previously worked in local government.
Ferringer said she’s looking forward to working with Freeport Council as she prepares for her new role.
“I’m really excited about being involved in the community,” she said.
She’ll step into the manager post left vacant by Zachary Filous, who resigned in June after a 2½ year tenure. Still a Freeport resident, he began his job as manager of Franklin Park last month.
Councilwoman Kimberly Barr said she expects Ferringer’s role to be largely administrative, which Barr said fits with her background.
The Buffalo Township resident was approved by council in a majority but not unanimous vote, Barr said.
“I want her to succeed so Freeport can succeed,” Barr said.
Freeport Mayor Matt Crytzer said Ferringer seems to be a good fit for the role, and he’s looking forward to getting to know her professionally.
He thinks her years of experience in administration at Armstrong School District will come in handy at the borough level.
Ferringer and borough officials did not disclose her salary. A job advertisement for the position listed a range of $45,000-$60,000.
